Last week, the Department of Education and Training submitted to the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City a plan to open schools in districts that are determined to be safe against Covid-19. The opening is for the early childhood (kindergarten, grades 1, 2) and senior grades (grades 9, 12), followed by grades 5, 6, 10 and the rest. Classes will be divided into small, one-session classes.

In order to open, schools must ensure the following conditions: Being evaluated according to the set of safety criteria for epidemic prevention, teachers must receive 2 doses of the vaccine at least 2 weeks before the school day. With more than 135,000 teachers and school staff, about 90% have been vaccinated, of which more than half have received 2 doses.

Ho Chi Minh City is social distancing, online learning is determined to last until the end of the first semester. Currently, about 1.3 million students from primary to high school are getting acquainted and learning new programs; nearly 340,000 preschool children have not yet attended school.

Regarding supporting orphans because of COVID-19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said, according to regulations, the monthly allowance for orphans under 4 years old is 900,000 VND, above this age is 540,000 VND.

The children are granted health insurance cards, tuition fee exemption and reduction and other expenses at school, the subsidy period until under 16 years old. Social support policies are maintained until the age of 22 when children study culture, vocational training, colleges and universities.

Currently, districts and Thu Duc city are campaigning to help orphans because of COVID-19 with a support level of 3-5 million VND, necessities. In addition to the policy for orphans, F0 children are also supported with 1 million dong, food allowance of 80,000 dong/person/day during treatment and concentrated isolation. All expenses for medical examination and treatment related to COVID-19 are covered.

Previously, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs decided to support 1 million VND for babies born from April 27 to December 31, whose mothers have COVID-19.
