On September 21, 2021, the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha issued Notice No. 251 /TB-HDTS, sent to the Executive Boards of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in provinces and cities about the Ordaining of the Buddhist Church. products at the 6th Annual Conference of the VIII term of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha.

The announcement signed by Most Venerable Thich Thien Phap – Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Sangha Department of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha states:

Pursuant to Articles 53, 54, 55, 56 Chapter IX of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Charter;

Pursuant to Articles 63, 64, Chapter IX of the Regulations of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha;

Pursuant to Article 32, Section 2, Chapter V of the Law on Belief and Religion.

In order for the clerical ordination at the 6th Annual Conference of the 8th term of the Central Committee of the Church to follow the prescribed procedures and order, the Standing Committee of the Executive Council and the Central Committee for Religious Development shall guide the registration for religious ordination. The products of Venerable Master, Venerable Master, Nun, and Nun are as follows:

1. Ordained the Venerable Monk, the senior nun aged 60 or more; Buddhist age of 40 or more or the year of ordination as a Bhikkhu/Bhikkhuni from 1981 or later.

2. Ordained High Priest, nun with age 45 or older; Religious age from 25 Ha Ha or over or the year of ordination as a Bhikkhu/Bhikkhuni from 1996 or later.

3. Those monks and nuns who meet the conditions as prescribed by the Charter and Regulations of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha, the Board of Directors shall proceed to make a dossier and register a list of clerical ordinations with the Central Church; notify the ordination of the clergy to the People’s Committee, the Religious Affairs Committee of the province and city.

Profile includes:

– A copy of the Instruction for Ordaining the Venerable Master/Nun (for the Ordination of the Most Venerable Monk/Nin);

– A copy of the certificate of monks and nuns, the certificate of ordination as a bhikkhu/Bhikkhuni (for the ordination of the Venerable Master, a nun);

– Curriculum vitae;

– Criminal record card No. 1.

– Proposal document and list of monks and nuns proposed for ordination.

4. In cases where the conditions are not met as prescribed, the Standing Committee of the Executive Council and the Central Committee of the Buddhist Sangha shall not submit it to the Conference for consideration and approval.

5. After the approval of the 6th Conference of the VIII Central Church, monks and nuns can use the title of Priest according to regulations. At the Ninth National Buddhist Congress (2022-2027), His Holiness the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha will sign the Decision to issue the Ordaining Instruction.

– The Northern provinces and cities shall send the dossiers to the Central Office of the Church, Quan Su pagoda at 73 Quan Su street, Hanoi city;

– Southern provinces and cities, the dossiers should be sent to Office 2 TWGH, Quang Duc Zen Monastery, No. 294 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Vo Thi Sau ward, District 3, HCMC.

– Deadline for submitting applications: Before December 20, 2021
