On the morning of January 20, at the headquarters of the Executive Board – Long Phuoc Pagoda (Bac Lieu City), the Provincial Board of Directors of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a conference to summarize Buddhist activities in 2021 and discuss the program of activities for the year. 2022.
The conference was chaired by Most Venerable Thich Hue Tri, Standing Member of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Legal Committee, Head of the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, and attended by the venerable Standing Committee and members of the Committee. Management; representatives of the government were Mr. Kim Mien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Ho Hoang Canh, Deputy Head of Ethnic – Religion Committee and representatives of provincial departments.
According to the summary report presented by Venerable Thich Giac Nghi, Permanent Deputy Head and Chief Secretary, the province has 130 state-recognized monasteries and currently manages 730 monks and nuns. College and Intermediate Buddhist classes are about to graduate and are expected to open the sixth course in May 2022.
The ceremonies are held simply, especially at Quan Am Phat Dai, the Executive Board has carried out a week of praying for the epidemic to be repelled soon. The Information and Communication Department has delivered over 200 news reports and 15 reports on Buddhist activities. Social charity work with a total value of over 43 billion VND, of which more than 12 billion VND is in support for the prevention of Covid. The conference discussed a number of important tasks on the program of Buddhist activities in 2022 with the plan to organize the 6th Provincial Buddhist Congress, inaugurate the Provincial Buddhist Secondary School, finalize the master plan of the province. and continue to build the Quan Am Phat Dai area, request the Provincial People’s Committee to recognize a number of monastic establishments and expect a net social charity target of over 45 billion VND.
At the conference, Venerable Thich Thien Nang, Deputy Secretary cum Chief of the Office of the Executive Board presented the plan to organize the 6th congress; Most Venerable Thich Hue Tri announced the expected composition of the Executive Board of the Provincial Buddhist Sangha for the term 2022-2027 and was unanimously approved by the conference.
It is expected that the congress will be held on May 4, 5, 2022 at the headquarters of the Executive Board.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Kim Mien, on behalf of the provincial leaders and the Standing Board of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, acknowledged the results of Buddhist activities of the Executive Board and the monastic establishments that have actively supported the state in contributing part of repelling epidemics; districts, towns and Bac Lieu city have successfully completed the organization of the Congress for the term 2021-2026. He also agreed on the program of Buddhist activities in 2022 and hoped that the VI Provincial Congress of Buddhist Sangha would be a great success.
On this occasion, the Executive Board congratulated the Venerable Thich Hue Tri and sincerely prayed for the blessings of the Three Jewels to protect the Venerable Dharma body, peace of mind and body to continue to direct Buddhism in Bac Lieu province. successfully complete the Buddhist mission in the coming days.
