“He blew a new wind – called ‘refreshing Buddhism’. Renewing Buddhism means how to make our Buddhism suitable to the activities of society, so that our Buddhism can survive and develop. Therefore, in that spirit, most of the monks who studied the Sangha accepted and committed themselves”, the Elder Venerable recalled.
Elder Venerable Thich Tri Quang also recalled Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh’s commitment to his dharma propaganda with the opening of a School of Youth for Social Service, “If we do anything for society, a new society will know Buddhism, respect Buddhism is the way of wisdom, the way of enlightenment. Accordingly, at home as well as abroad, Zen master has had methods suitable for all circumstances, situations and in different cultures, bringing the breath of the times.
“Today, he returned to his motherland and passed away in the Tu Hieu ancestral home, where he was born to study and become a Buddhist monk. For An Quang family, for Southern monks and nuns, Zen master is always thought of as a person with wisdom, foresight and able to adapt to any situation. Therefore, the Master left a lesson for posterity: If you want to live and survive, you must adapt. That is the renewal of the Master’s Buddhism. I hope all brothers in Plum Village learn to listen to the Venerable Master, his view is to always innovate, adapt, survive and develop,” the Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang said in front of the Indian Patriarchate.
