Sharing with the Enlightenment newspaper, Most Venerable Thach Sok Xane, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Tra Vinh province said that the outstanding highlight in the 2017-2022 tenure of Tra Vinh Buddhism is continuing continue to maintain personnel stability, unite monks, nuns, Buddhists of all sects in all activities.

The personnel composition is completed with all representatives of the sectarian organizations: Northern Buddhism, Mendicant, Theravada Buddhism, Khmer Theravada Buddhism. This ensures the balance and promotes the overall strength of Tra Vinh Buddhism in the last term. Since then, Buddhist activities have taken place smoothly and quickly.

The preparation of successors is also focused with the Board of Directors always recommending young monks and nuns to study bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs at home and abroad. “It is the timely direction of the Standing Board and the consensus of the members of the Executive Board that the outstanding issues in the old term have been thoroughly resolved. Issues related to a number of monasteries in the area have been satisfactorily resolved. The Most Venerable Venerable Master of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Buddhist Executive Board also expressed his joy because in the last term, Tra Vinh Buddhism has built 13 new monasteries (Northern Tong), bringing the total number of monasteries in the area. up to 263 thrones, appointed 22 abbots and consolidated the former establishments. This can be considered an unprecedented achievement for Buddhism in Tra Vinh province compared to previous terms.

Also in the last term, pagodas such as Ta Ot pagoda (Cau Ke district); Ba Giam pagoda, Sala Pang pagoda (Duyen Hai district); Char pagoda (Tra Cu district) is recognized as a provincial historical relic. The Chol Chnam Thmay, Sene DonTa, and Ok Om Bok ceremonies according to the Khmer tradition were also successfully held, contributing to solving the needs of the people here for religious and religious activities.

This success comes from the fact that the Venerables of the Board of Directors always listen, exchange together and agree on ideas in Buddhist activities. The solidarity and harmony of the Denominations as well as the support of local authorities at all levels are also key factors in bringing about the above-mentioned achievements.

Social security, breakthrough education

It is thanks to that stability and solidarity that the social security work managed by the Board of Directors has achieved achievements beyond the set targets. In the last term, Buddhism in Tra Vinh province contributed more than 300 billion VND to charity, exceeding 181 billion VND in the previous term. Every year, Tra Vinh Buddhism always cooperates and signs with the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee to donate more than 50 billion VND to the social security fund of the province.

Especially in 2021, monks and nuns, Buddhists throughout the province, under the advocacy of the Board of Directors, have contributed more than 60 billion VND to support the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the upcoming congress, the Executive Board will also donate 20 billion VND to the social security fund of the province, contributing to accompanying the provincial government in taking care of people’s lives.

In the field of education, Buddhism in Tra Vinh province also marked a transformation in the last term. Tra Vinh Buddhist Intermediate School has had 2 graduation courses with the number of 84 students. Graduates then continue to study at Can Tho College of Buddhism, Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City or study master’s and doctorate degrees abroad, then return. chair or serve on the Provincial Board of Directors.

In 2021, the Executive Board also cooperated with Tra Vinh University to open the code of Religious Studies and is currently recruiting monks and nuns, and students inside and outside the province to study. This helps people have more opportunities to approach Buddhism.

“In the spirit of strictly complying with Circular 60/TT-HDTS, dated March 26, 2021 and most recently Circular 004/TT-HDTS, dated January 10, 2022 guiding the organization of the general meeting In provinces and cities, we sat together to discuss and agree on the selection of personnel for the new term.

Qualification, ethics, and dynamism in Buddhist affairs are the standards that we always give top priority to. In addition, the selection of personnel always ensures the balance between the denominations and absolutely does not miss out on talent.

We have also submitted to the Church for review and approval the new personnel composition with a total of 63 members, of which 24 new members are introduced, 27 Khmer Theravada Buddhists, 36 Northern Buddhists. (there are 6 nuns, 1 mendicant and 1 Theravada Kinh). Although there were some changes in personnel for objective reasons near the date of the General Meeting, it was basically resolved.

As for the education of Khmer Theravada Buddhism, the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks in Tra Vinh province organizes Literature, elementary and intermediate Pali classes at 143 Khmer Theravada temples in the area. The educational program framework is built in accordance with each level and holds an annual graduation exam.

From 2017 to 2022, there were 2,276 Khmer Literature classes across the province with 50,831 students; 695 Pali elementary classes with 13,372 students and 85 Pali intermediate classes with 2,398 students. Particularly, there are 34 bachelors, masters and doctorates at home and abroad.
