Why do we have so much greed and so much suffering? Perhaps because we rarely think about our status, about impermanence, about the less pleasant things in ourselves and the whole world. It is ignorance, ignorance that does not clearly see the truth of life that creates virtual values and false conceptions of life.

Why do we have so much greed, so much hatred, and so much suffering? Perhaps because we rarely think about our status, about impermanence, about the less pleasant things in ourselves and the whole world. It is ignorance, ignorance that does not clearly see the truth of life that has created virtual values and false conceptions of life. Then from there, we eagerly rush into the vortex of fame and fortune like moths rushing into a blazing fire, sometimes sowing suffering to ourselves and others that we still have the illusion that we are creating happiness.

Is this life fun? Yes, but happiness is little but suffering is much, happiness is difficult to find and easy to lose, joy is never a gift for the majority. Thanks to a little joy in the five desires, it comforts people’s fate, adds energy and vitality to people. Although there is joy, the Buddha taught that joy is fragile, do not deceive yourself but need to see clearly all the unhappy things, the negative sides of life. Because the unhappy things are more capital, is an obvious truth of the world, of human life.

Thanks to clearly seeing things that are not happy, knowing that birth, old age, sickness and death is a natural thing, we know to accept the truth and remain calm in the face of fluctuations. It is common sense that people want to ignore, forget about the sad realities, the cruel and dreary endings of their fate. The Buddha taught not to be like that, look directly at reality to accept and transform them. By seeing clearly, one becomes lighter, more relaxed, and more upward.

“Once the Buddha was in the country of Savatthi, in the Kyda forest, in the Garden of Solitude.

At that time, the Blessed One said to the bhikkhus:

– There are people who practice the ten thoughts, immediately get rid of the taints of existence, gain supernatural powers, and gradually attain Nirvana. What are ten? That is, perceiving white bones, thinking blue bruises, perceiving swelling, perceiving indigestible food, perceiving blood, perceiving being eaten, perceiving permanence, impermanence, lust for food, perceiving death, and perceiving all the unhappiness of the world. . That’s called a bhikkhu who cultivates these ten perceptions, gets rid of the taints of existence, and reaches the realm of Nirvana.

Again, bhikkhu! Of these ten perceptions, the perception of all the unhappiness of the world is the foremost. Why? If there are people who practice thinking about the unpleasant things of the world and those who keep their faith and obey the Buddha’s teachings, then these two people will definitely surpass the class and achieve results.

Therefore, bhikkhus! If when sitting under a tree, in an empty, empty place, you should think about these ten perceptions.

Thus, bhikkhus, learn this!

At that time, the bhikkhus, having heard the Buddha’s teaching, happily obeyed.

Sadness because of ignorance

Discussion:

The Buddha affirmed, the ten subjects of contemplation are “perceiving white bones, perceiving blue bruises, perceiving swelling, perceiving indigestible food, perceiving blood, perceiving being eaten, perceiving impermanence, perceiving greed for food, perceiving death, and perceiving death. all the unhappiness of the world” will help the practitioner “to get rid of the taints of existence and to reach the realm of Nirvana”.

Greed will decrease when we know that we will die soon, pride will lower when we see that this body is also rotten, hatred will decrease when we know that eventually we and our enemies will have to lie down by ourselves. Life is short, tomorrow we still don’t know where to go. No one can decide for sure their future. Life is a bit fun, but frivolous and fake. So what is the true value of human life?

It is these self-questioning that break the dull mind and brighten the wisdom. Transforming awareness, changing the concept of life in the direction of less greed, hatred, and delusion, knowing that living for yourself and for others is the fruit of insight, is step by step creating for yourself true happiness and joy. Therefore, if one concentrates on these ten meditation subjects, one will surely “clean up the taint of existence and reach the Nirvana state”. But if we can observe it a couple of times a day, in a week, it will also help us wake up, live upward and more gently.
