The Buddha’s birth shook all realms because it was a birth that brought great benefits to gods, humans and happiness for all sentient beings.
Although he descended and manifested like a human, from the moment he was born, he showed us very special and rare things that only appear in saints.
So what are those special and wondrous events? To learn more, we invite you to read the article “03 special events when Buddha was born” below:
#1 Gods support when Buddha was born
When Shakyamuni Buddha was born in Lumbini Garden (in present-day Nepal), all the gods were joyfully welcomed. From the heavens, the gods came down to the human world to support His body with a towel. In the 3rd Central Sutra, the Sutra of Hyuu Vi Tang Huu Phap says: “When the Bodhisattva was born from his mother’s womb, Ananda, the gods took him first, then the human race.”…
“When a Bodhisattva is born from his mother’s womb, he does not touch the earth. Four Heavenly Sons took him, placed him in front of his mother, and said: “Rejoice the queen. The queen gave birth to a great man”…
#2 A stream of water bathed the Buddha’s body when he was born
In the Third Central Sutra, the Dharma Sutra, the Buddha taught: “When a Bodhisattva was born from his mother’s womb, Ananda, two streams of water appeared out of nowhere, one cold and the other hot. Those two streams of water wash clean for the Bodhisattva and for the mother.”
In addition, in the Pu Dieu Sutra it is said that: In the sky, there are nine dragons who spray water to bathe the Crown Prince; Also known as Cuu Long sprayed water to bathe the Crown Prince.
From the Buddhist scriptures, we know that the event of water bathing on the body when the Crown Prince was born is real, miraculous, and rare, appearing only in great people and saints when they appear in the world.
#3 Buddha was born and walked 7 steps on a lotus flower
The fact that Shakyamuni Buddha walked 7 steps at birth, is recorded in both the Theravada and Development Sutras (the Sutra of Hyuu Vi Tang Huu Phap is included in the 3 Central Central Sutra; and the Upa Di Phap Mon Sutra. Tinh Hanh – book Lower Diem Good).
The Sutra of the Dharma, in the Central Division 3, records this rare event: “…When a Bodhisattva was born, Ananda, he stood firm, balanced on two legs, facing the North. , walked seven steps, a white canopy was covered. He looked in all directions, raised his voice like a bull king, and uttered the following words: I am the supreme being in the world! I am the most respected person in the world! I am the highest in the world! This is the last life, no longer need to be reborn in this life. Because, venerable sir, I accept and uphold this matter, venerable sir, as a rare person, a close friend of the Blessed One.”
Again, according to the Sutra of Upa Di Phap Mon Tinh Hanh – the book Lower Diem Good, it is recorded that: After being born, go to the North seven steps. At that time, in the air, there was a canopy over the bodhisattva. After walking seven steps, the Bodhisatta looked around the ten directions and bellowed the lion’s voice, saying: In all the world, only I am supreme, I am supreme in Heaven, the one who ends this life I will not return.
32 good omens appear when Buddha was born
Through the two passages in these two books, it is clear to us that when the Buddha was born, he took seven steps, each step had a blooming lotus to support his feet. However, many people think that this is a symbolic image, not real, maybe later embellished by Buddha’s disciples.
This phenomenon is rare, but not impossible. At the end of May 2017, on social networks appeared a clip recording the image of a baby girl born at Santa Cruz hospital in the city of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, when the newborn baby was born to her mother. into the nurse’s arm and walked away to the amazement of the onlookers. Thus, the fact that the Crown Prince was born with seven steps has been clearly demonstrated. The clip above clearly proves that what the Buddhist scriptures say is completely true, certainly when the Crown Prince was born, taking seven steps was real, no doubt.
Buddha’s birth is extremely rare like a flower that blooms only once every thousand years. Although he descended in the same form as us, but because he was not a human, the special events when the Buddha was born were completely real. He was born in a world that is a great deal of predestined conditions, and all realms are joyful and happy to welcome a great Saint to the world. Towards the anniversary of the Buddha’s birth (PL.2566 – DL.2022), I wish all Buddhists to always diligently practice the Buddha’s teachings for happiness in this life and many lives to come; that is also gratitude to the Buddha in enlightenment. Wishing all Buddhists peace and joy on the Buddha’s birthday.
