The act of self-immolation of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is the practice of Buddha Shakyamuni. In the lifetimes of the Bodhisattva practice, there were times when he burned his body as a lamp to make offerings to the Buddhas.
In part 1, Buddhists learned 5 valuable lessons from the event Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc self-immolation to protect the Dharma. In part 2, I would like to introduce the next 5 lessons for Buddhists to understand more about his great example, thereby making a personal salary and luggage on the path of anthropology and study of Buddhism.
We invite you to read the sharing of Master Thich Truc Thai Minh in the article below.
6. Buddhist studies must be applied to life, not just theoretical studies
The act of self-immolation of the Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is the practice of Shakyamuni Buddha. In the lifetimes of the Bodhisattva practice, there were times when he burned his body as a lamp to make offerings to the Buddhas.
In the Lotus Sutra, there are two Bodhisattvas Medicine King and Bodhisattva Medicine Thuong who also burn their hands to make offerings to the Buddha. Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is very fond of chanting and reciting the Lotus Sutra. Therefore, the Venerable Master also said that I studied the practice of Medicine King Bodhisattva, I burned this body to make offerings to the Buddhas and pray for the longevity of the Buddhadharma.
Thus, we see that he is the model for learning and practicing; It’s not just learning with theory. Because in order to make the great vow of sacrifice for the Buddha Dharma as well as withstand the scorching heat of the fire, it is certain that in his spiritual life, he was very strict and diligently practiced according to the Buddha’s teachings.
Through this event, we Buddhists too, learning the teachings of the Buddha must practice and apply them in life. Buddha taught literature – private – practice. Literature means learning, listening; fourth is osmosis; practice is righteous thoughts and practice.
If we only listen for fun, give or say, we can never transform. Traits and bad habits are still the same. Therefore, learning and cultivation must go hand in hand. This is very important. Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is a shining example between study and practice that we must learn from him.
7. The monastic must teach sentient beings by oral and physical teachings
Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc not only used oral and physical teachings, but also used his life to teach sentient beings. This is indeed a great lesson for the future generations.
The act of self-immolation of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is truly a comprehensive upbringing. He gave his life to teach sentient beings. It is truly a great teaching. This act of his has made many people believe in the Buddhadharma and transform evil karma for sentient beings, awakening the wicked to turn to repent. His work has great value and educational nature.
8. Cultivators who want to witness the Way need to practice sincerely
For the Buddha Dharma, if you practice, you will have proof. The most complete precepts, concentration and wisdom we must prove the Way. Therefore, we can rest assured that if we practice cultivation and practice, we will definitely have to enter the Way and prove it.
Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is such a person, he truly practices, truly practices. So His departure represents attainment. Because if it is not a person who has attained meditation, concentration, and wisdom, it is impossible to be at peace in the midst of such a fire.
We just need a little burn is unbearable. In the situation where the whole body is on fire, perhaps the ordinary person’s mind will be confused, screaming, sometimes getting up and running around. However, when the fire rolled up, covering his body, Venerable Thich Quang Duc was still sitting calmly, as freely as a pink lotus in a furnace, like a black bronze statue sitting in the middle of a street intersection.
When the fire was almost extinguished, the Venerable Thich Quang Duc fell down. True to his prophecy to his disciples: If his body falls, the Buddhist struggle will be successful; and if he falls forward, this struggle will not be successful, the Vietnamese monks will have to leave for other countries.
Therefore, the fact that the Venerable Thich Quang Duc fell like that to prove that what he said would be true, he burned himself like that was proof of his attainment. He actually realized that this body is an illusory body (temporary false body), attained the profound truth of the Diamond Sutra, so he was so calm and steady.
Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc lived a true religious life, so he realized and made a vow to burn himself very gently and calmly.
9. Monks and nuns, Buddhists must practice, live beautifully to honor the Buddha
The work of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is to honor the Buddha, to honor the Buddha’s teachings. This proves to the whole world that the Buddha’s son is so resilient and brave, how great is the Buddha. That is the praise, the return to the Buddha. His sincerity in cultivation, his true attainments is a reward for our good father – the World-Honored One.
Monks, nuns, and Buddhists too now, must identify themselves as Buddha’s children, must honor the Buddha Buddha. Children must honor their parents. With the name of Buddha’s children, we Buddhists also have to live worthy, how do we not shame our father, whatever we do, we must be tall, beautiful, and precious. Our body, speech, and mind need to be honed, and living so well is a real honor for the Blessed One.
10. Strengthening belief in the miracle of Buddha Dharma
The heart of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is an undying heart that cannot be burned. His heart is the crystallization of his will – wisdom – concentration power, so that heart becomes an indestructible diamond. His heart is also a heart like many people’s hearts, also made of blood and flesh, but why is it that when burned to thousands of degrees, the heart is still intact, while the flesh and blood have burned out. That is the miracle of the Buddha Dharma.
The miracle of Buddhism cannot be considered superstition. Because the Buddhadharma is spiritual, the heart of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is a proof that the Buddhadharma is truly inspiring, sublime and mysterious, enough for all generations to believe that the Buddhadharma is true and incorruptible. lie. The Buddhadharma is the only way to save sentient beings from suffering. The heart of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is truly great, a treasure of Vietnamese Buddhism and also a treasure of our country.
If we reverently pay respects to the heart of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc, we will surely gain a lot of blessings. If our country is in trouble or in danger and we know how to turn to His heart to pay respects, make offerings, and pray, we believe that there will be a miraculous inspiration, because it is compatible with the vow of cremation. His mission is for the country to be peaceful and the people to be at peace.
The event that the Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc “the Dharma burned himself” and the heart of his relic leaves us with 10 valuable lessons. We are able to live in peace today partly because of the grace of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc who sacrificed his life to protect the Buddha Dharma and the country. I hope that people from all over the world can worship his heart so that everyone has the same steadfast faith as his heart, if everyone believes deeply and learns to understand the Buddhadharma, the country will always develop well.
The appearance of Most Venerable Thich Quang Duc is a proof of true cultivation and attainment. Hopefully, those who are walking on the path of practice will also sincerely practice until the day they attain liberation.
