One day, Venerable Muc Lien was walking in the heavenly palace, and saw a god with great divine power standing in front of his palace. That angel came to greet the Venerable, and the Venerable asked: Hey angel, you have great power, what have you done to be like that?

This story was told when the Buddha was in Ky Vien, in connection with the Venerable Dai Mulian.

One day, Reverend Muc-Lien Walking in the palace of heaven, he saw a god with great divine power standing in front of his palace. That angel came to greet the venerable one, and the venerable asked:

– Hey angel, you have great power, what have you done to be like that?

– OH! Sir, please don’t ask me. (This god only did a small good deed, so he was embarrassed to say).

The venerable asked again and again, asking to tell, finally the angel said:

– Venerable Sir, I do not make offerings to, respect or listen to the Dharma. I’m just telling the truth.

When we think of good things, there will be times when we do good deeds

The venerable went to another palace and asked a few other goddesses. They tried to hide what they were doing but couldn’t get past the venerable one, one said:

– Venerable Sir, I do not give alms or do any religious work, but in the time of Kassapa Buddha I was the servant of a brutal master. He only beat. But when angry thoughts surfaced, I comforted myself saying: “He is my master, he can arrest me, or cut off my nose, or cut off anywhere. Don’t be angry.” In this way, I calm my heart, only then, I have this blessing.

Another said:

– Venerable Sir, when I was watching the sugarcane field, I offered a sugarcane to a recluse.

– I offer a timbaràsaka.

– An elaluka.

– A ferrusaka.

– I offer a handful of radishes.

All of them concluded: “In this way we obtain merit”.

The venerable returned to the white Buddha:

“World-Honored One, is a person born in the heavens just because he has told the truth, or has controlled his anger, or given away a handful of beans, etc.?

– Why did you ask me that? Didn’t all the angels tell you clearly?

– Yes, I believe that just a few small good things like that are enough to be born in heaven.

Buddha taught:

“Mu-lien, just by telling the truth, just by controlling anger, or giving a small gift, one is born in heaven.

He said verse:

Honestly, without anger,

Of little, give people beggars,

Through these three good deeds,

People close to heaven.
