Most Venerable Thich Minh Thong, Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Sangha, Deputy Head of the Executive Board cum Head of the Buddhist Education Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, said that since the Ho Chi Minh City Church was established up to now, this is the first time that nuns have taken the vows. Ho Chi Minh City has the initiative to organize a class on precepts in three months of settling down for nuns. This is something to be respected and encouraged.

The Venerable Master said that in 9 months of practicing Buddhism in the Church, as well as abbot responsibilities at monasteries, the remaining three months are the time for monks and nuns to settle down. It is an opportunity for the practitioner to return to live with his inner self, confine his body and mind, and come back to live more fully with himself.

In the first lesson, Most Venerable Thich Minh Thong presented an overview of the precepts and the causes and conditions that the Buddha invented the precepts. Thereby, the Venerable emphasized that when one understands the precepts well, the practitioner will feel very comfortable, there is nothing binding that makes it difficult for people to keep the precepts. Because we can see that: “The precepts are the wall, the embankment to prevent turbid and dirty water from entering our mind”.

At the study session, the Venerable Master also briefly discussed the issue of practicing the Law of Retreat in accordance with the precepts..
