Drinking water to remember the source is the spirit of gratitude and gratitude, the traditional cultural beauty of our ancestors from thousands of years ago has summarized the teachings to remind us to always remember about the original grace.
Because “Humans have ancestors and tribes, Just like a tree has a root like a river has a source. Following that tradition, on the morning of June 30, 2022 (ie, June 2 of the year of the Tiger), monks, nuns, and Buddhists of Ha Tien Pagoda respectfully and dignifiedly held a cavalry ceremony for Bodhisattva Thich Hai Huan.
At exactly 8:00 am, the Ton Duc and Buddhists performed a ceremony to invite the spirit of the Patriarch – Bodhisattva Thich Hai Huan at the Church of the Great Ancestor Dai Hung Bao Dien so that all of them could pay their respects and make offerings. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Đ.Tien Cung announced a brief biography and religious behavior of the Patriarch.
History of Thich Hai Huan
Referring to Ha Tien Pagoda, many people remember another name, “Pagoda for rain”. Explaining the above story, one senior said that in the past, the area often suffered from drought. The drought raged for a long time, causing the land to become barren and the trees to die.
Living on agriculture, many people fell into starvation, had to leave the village to go abroad to seek food. Witnessing these tribulations with his own eyes, the temple abbot at that time, Tinh Huan, set up a self-altering lute to pray for rain.
Accordingly, monk Tinh Huan volunteered to burn himself to pray for rain for the people on the 30th day of the 5th lunar month. After making a vow before the Three Jewels and heaven and earth, he sat in the full lotus position. The fire consumed his precious body, but his hands remained intact.
“The story of setting up a flock to relieve drought and pray for rain for the people is true. He burned himself to worship the gods and pray for the people. He burned on May 30 / Lunar calendar (unknown year) to 1/6 of the lunar calendar, it rained heavily. Rain continued for 3 days in a row. His tower was not until King Quang Trung’s reign honored him as a Bodhisattva. In the new stele it says Bodhisattva Thich Hai Huan
Unfortunately, at present, in Ha Tien pagoda, there are no sources of documents that clearly describe the background and spiritual practice of Master Tinh Huan. Even TT himself. Thich Minh Tri – the current abbot of Ha Tien pagoda also doesn’t know much about his ancestor apart from the meager information on the stele.
The Master is a person who sacrificed himself for Dharma and Nationality, has dedicated his whole life to bring happiness to sentient beings. He is a virtuous example for future generations to follow, a person who is not afraid of hardships, determined to practice, and does not spare his life on the Buddhist path. We are fortunate to be sentient beings who have inherited the virtues of our master.
With dignified reverence, the venerable monks and nuns and Buddhists turned to the Buddha, to the Patriarchs, making vows to diligently practice and study according to his virtues. The ceremony is carried out according to traditional rituals: incense recitation, white Buddha, opening sutras, worshiping the horse, progressing to Giac Linh An, advancing Linh Tung characters of merit and virtue, giving food to her soul, praying to the nine ancestors of the seven ancestors. super ascension, super sound bridge, temple.
In the afternoon of the same day, Ha Tien Pagoda held the Ceremony of Taking Refuge in the Three Jewels – Passing on the Five Precepts to many good men and women. The ceremony was held in a dignified, respectful, and full of joy atmosphere.
In order to help good men and women gain basic knowledge when being a Buddhist and strengthen their faith in the Three Jewels, Venerable Thich Minh Tri – Central Committee of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha, abbot of Ha Tien Pagoda has dedicated full-time a lecture on the benefits of taking refuge in the Three Jewels – observing the five precepts and talking about some of the positions of lay Buddhists when they come to the temple as well as encouraging Buddhists to practice moral character virtue on the basis of the five precepts has just been taught.
The Buddha taught that being a human is difficult, hearing the Buddha’s teachings, meeting a master and taking refuge in the Three Jewels is even more difficult. Therefore, the Buddhists present are people who have a lot of good roots and good causes and conditions. Therefore, taking refuge in the Three Jewels is a very wise and correct choice.
Buddhism has been present in our country for more than 2000 years and has always been associated with the rise and fall of the nation. Therefore, you must respect, not for love, for money or for any other reason, give up your ideals, give up your spiritual roots.
To become a true Buddhist, there must be standards, which are the five precepts: not to kill, not to steal, not to commit adultery, not to lie, not to drink alcohol. The five precepts are the basis of human morality. Those who study Buddhism to live ethically must know how to keep the 5 precepts. After taking refuge, Buddhists should stay close to the Three Jewels to practice and study Buddhism. If we know how to practice in our present life and create good karma, when we leave this world, we will bring good karma to be reborn in a good realm. Thus, our life will be forever good not only in the present but also in the future.
