Making money is difficult, but knowing how to spend money reasonably and meaningfully is even more difficult. According to the wisdom of the World-Honored One, if you know how to use money and use your property righteously, your blessings and assets will increase and not decrease.
A time, World Honored One reside in Sàvatthi. Then King Pasenadi of Kosala, at noon, went to pay homage to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said to King Pasenadi, who was sitting to one side: Where have you come from, great king, at noon like this?
Here, Lord, there is a millionaire householder in Sàvatthi who has died, and I have come to see the property of the childless person being transported to the inner city. World-Honored One, there are eight million gold coins, not to mention silver coins. White World Honored One, however, the food of the millionaire householder consisted only of the sour porridge left behind yesterday. And the cloth to wear is only linen cloth sewn into three sheets. The car is a small, old and dilapidated car, with a canopy covered with leaves.
It is so, Your Majesty! A person who is not a real person, even if he has great wealth, does not bring peace to himself, his parents, wife and children, servants, friends and relatives; for the recluses, brahmins, do not set up offerings to the upper world, capable of leading to the upper world, leading to bliss and fruition, to the heavenly world. If that person’s property is not used properly, in time kings will plunder, or steal, or plunder, or be burned by fire, or swept away by water, or plundered by hostile heirs. Such is the case, great king, if property is not used properly, it leads to loss, not to enjoyment.

Buddha said: “I do not see a butcher who enjoys great wealth.”
A great rich man in Sàvatthi died, leaving a huge fortune. King Pasenadi of Kosala, one of the most powerful kings, had to see the estate to know how great it was. However, the rich man still lived in poverty during his lifetime, not only himself but also his family, clan and society did not receive any benefits.
It turned out that the unlucky rich man only knew how to work, accumulate and store money to fill the barn, but did not know how to spend money and use the property properly. With the way of handling stingy property, wealth poured in without leaking, according to the Blessed One, that great rich man was not a wise man, a true man.
We often hear, people make wealth, not people. Therefore, once you do well, you must first take care of yourself, your family, your relatives and your associates. After that, we need to work together to build society and develop the community. More importantly, we must know how to make offerings to the Three Jewels, cultivate good karma, accumulate blessings for this life and the next.
Making money is difficult, but knowing how to spend money reasonably and meaningfully is even more difficult. According to the wisdom of the World-Honored One, if you know how to use money and use your property righteously, your blessings and assets will increase and not decrease. On the contrary, if you make wealth but only keep it, don’t dare to eat it, don’t help people as well as do good deeds, in the end, you will still be empty-handed and have no merit at all.
